Time to Lose My “Baby” Fat

November 29, 2010

This morning I got up at 5:20 and left the house in the dark and the cold to go to a Beach Bootcamp. I spent an hour running in the sand, pulling a weighted sled, doing push-ups, sit-ups, planks, and squat thrusts. My heart thudded, my chest burned, and my legs screamed. But it felt great.

Once upon a time I was in good shape. I ran marathons, did triathlons, climbed mountains, and rode my bike. Then I decided I wanted to be a mother and the whole thing fell apart. As I tried to get pregnant, taking care of my body meant not pushing it too hard, not asking it to do anything dangerous, and not putting it under any stress. Over the course of five years I accumulated baby fat without accumulating a baby.

It’s been almost two years now since I got off the crazy train and started learning to accept my childfree life, but I feel as if I’ve lost so much ground, physically. I look at some of my friends who are older than me and see that physical fitness has very little to do with age. I am now out of excuses.

So I’m back. I’m going to whip myself into shape and lose that baby fat!

Are you taking care of yourself? If not, get a jump-start on your New Year’s Resolutions and join me. Oh, and please check in on me once in a while, would you, in case I forget all this fighting talk.

    Bravo you!
I’m still trying to get back to my “pregnancy weight” 7 years on. How sad is that? (I was in great shape for my last ectopic pregnancy).
    Argh!

I do exercise, but I could never get up at 5.20 am and work out. Not a morning person! My workouts are at least 50% more intense, and I feel soooo much better, if I work out in the afternoon not the morning. Trouble is finding time. Excuses excuses.

I’m feeling the same way – except that I was never an uber athlete like you! I’m thinking more like Pilates. I finally found a place close by but now I have to get myself there.

Pilates is great. Just do it. At least give it a try. It’s great for everyone even if you’re 70 years old or overweight. but watch out: You won’t loose much weight through pilates training. On the other hand, it’s great for your back and so on.
I put on 15kg when i met my long-time boyfriend, started taking the pill and stopped smoking at the same time. I was barely 30 then. I used to like it, i thought “oh well – this is my “adult-woman-shape””. AND i used to think that i looked “motherly”. That soon when i had had a baby (i was in no hurry then) i would look like this anyway. that this was what mothers looked like. that it was fine.
I put another 10 kg on and lost them again thanks to weight watchers. So here i am now in my “adult woman shape”. Trying to figure out how on earth i’m going to attract a new partner looking like this, the new partner who will be the last chance for a baby. i’m not so optimistic….

I’m working on my “baby fat” too. The whole “don’t want to work out TOO hard” when trying to get pregnant, and then the whole “BFN diet” where I’d “treat” myself to something decadent when I was sad that I wasn’t pregnant added up to me not being happy with my body. And now that I won’t be having kids ever, I feel that my weight is at least something I can control. I still love food, though, so it’s really just a battle of portion sizes. I’ve lost about 5 pounds so far, and one dress (jeans still the same size though, which is frustrating) size. It’s not much, but it’s progress.
