Last year my milestone birthday (40, if you must know) passed without an ounce of angst. In fact I was glad to be 40. I felt that I had come of age at last, come into my own, reached my zenith. Now, as my milestone-birthday-plus-one approaches, I just feel old.
My feet hurt, my back hurts, my tooth broke, and my hair went thin. My GP says my blood sugar is high and my OB tells me I’m heading into menopause, oh, about 10 years ahead of schedule.
Yesterday was the topper, though. I went to the health food store to buy vitamins and found myself checking out the cute guy behind the counter. He was clearly younger than me, but still within range had I been in the market for such a thing. Or so I thought. In a conversation about IDs, he mentioned that his mom still gets carded. “And she’s 45!”
I paid for my old lady vitamins and left.
Yes, I know that age is a state of mind, and that I will snap out of this, but today is Whiny Wednesday, so I’m feeling sorry for myself.
Whine on, sisters. What’s on your mind today?

Hahaahah
I was watching one of the Twilight movies recently and there was a scene when Jacob takes off his shirt…I started laughing. I was laughing because it was funny and then I was embarassed I thought this guy was cute. It felt like I was an old woman checkingout a high school boy….wait I think I was.
I also think that the people at Trader Joes ask for my ID as a way to flatter. With my newly appearing silver hair and bags under my eyes…there is no way they can really think I am under 21.

My sister and I joke about checking out younger guys that we are “pedi’s”…that was a term coined by her husband when the first Twilight came out. When we were getting ready to leave for the movie, he said “have fun, pedi’s!” It always creeps me out when one of my high school students tells me that I am the same age as his/her parent. Granted, they had their kid at a young age, but then I think, “damn, I was trying to have a BABY at this age, and they have a teenager.”

Yes, I know the feeling too. Last year I turned 40 and I’ll be 41 in June. Big whoopee. I, on the other hand, hated to enter 40s. I am no longer a young lady. Now, I’m a “ma’m”. Sometimes, I look in the mirror and don’t recognize myself. All my co-workers are in their later 20’s or early 30’s. It’s suffocating.

OK, my whine today is that you’re all so young, and I feel old! I have a different milestone birthday coming up next year … and I’m not ready for it (though I do want the expensive trip I’m insisting is my birthday present!).

Well, I’ve already PASSED Mali’s milestone birthday… & while I survived (& you all will too!), I am really getting tired of realizing that I’m the same age as my younger coworkers’ parents. Yikes.

Here’s my annoying story: The woman in a class I take who is older than me and smaller ALWAYS wants to walk me to my car at night after class because she is afraid for my safety because I look old to her. Yeah right! I’ve learned to ignore her and I’ve become down right rude to her at times – I am not some little old lady that needs help crossing the street! Geez!
