Childfree in Paris

May 17, 2011

This Meet-up group popped up in my email and caught my attention.

“Childfree in Paris” conjures romantic notions of sipping coffee and nibbling croissants with sleek sophisticated women, talking about fine food, fabulous art, and chic fashion. Granted, my high school French would get me the coffee and croissant and very little actual conversation, but I love the idea that there are childfree women all over the world.

For those of you looking to find kindred spirits a little closer to home, Meet-up is a great resource. You can search for groups, or create your own. You can gather members, set up events, and then go off and meet like-minded people.

Consider starting a Meet-up group in your area and posting a link here.

I love this post for so many reasons. Mainly because of the photo of the Eiffel Tower. I LOVE PARIS!! And I just kissed the Eiffel tower last month! When my husband and decided to have a child, I started a maternity leave fund. When things weren’t looking so good for us I would put a smile on my face and say “Paris will be lovely in the springtime.” Although most of that savings went to Drs and testing, my amazing and wonderful husband knew it was a life long dream and wanted to see it wife truly happy again and made it happen. The trip was amazing, everything I dreamt and more!

A child-free meetup group in Paris??? I’d have loved to be a part but my high school French was JUST enough for a cup of coffee and a croissant so I’m sure I wouldn’t have been able to attribute much. But I’d love to be a part just the same. After a previous mention about Meetup.com on your blog I looked into the site and I think the hubs and I just might check out one of their childfree couples groups here in FL.

I love this story. That’s so great that your husband twigged on. Hope you had a wonderful time. 🙂

We’ve been to a couple of the Meetups (unfortunately not one in Paris, though!). There’s a “Child-Free Couples” group here and a “Double Income No Kids (DINKS)” group. I don’t know if this is typical, but we found that the DINKS group was more young couples (early 20s) who just haven’t gotten around to having kids yet. We didn’t feel like we had as much in common with them as those in the other group. It’s definitely worth checking out, though.
