I must confess that I’m really enjoying these Saturday morning posts because they’re forcing me to think about some of the things I love, instead of only thinking about not having children. This is good for me, and hopefully good for you, too.
On my list of things I love is reading. I love books – fat ones, skinny ones, weird ones, funny ones – and I’m always on the prowl for a good book recommendation. My good friend Kathleen (who writes the Monday “It Got Me Thinking” column) runs a fantastic book club in San Francisco. I’ve tried to attend, but my recent schedule has caused me to miss the last two meetings and I’m jonesing for a good chat about books.
So, it got me thinking…why not start an online book club here?
I’m envisioning reading a book a month and then meeting either at a given time on the chat or throughout the month on the forum. I will put together a short list of books to begin with. Once the group gets going, we can all decide what to read next. My only caveat is that the books we read have nothing whatsoever to do with not having children!
Any interest in this idea? If so, post a quick comment below and join the Book Club Group on the main site, and we’ll take it from there!

This is such a great idea! I am ready to move on, also, but do not want to lose touch with this great community that has joined hearts with you.
I have read your book and been following your blog for the past year. Doing this has helped me come to terms with the choices and circumstances that led to my own life without children. Thank you so much for giving voice to all the bundled and conflicting emotions that accompany this lifestyle. I hope one day we can find more terms to describe it, as I am not yet ready to call myself “child free” or ” childless”.

Absolution! I live in a rural area, so finding a local book club as been difficult.

I am on the fence about being childfree and continuing to try. There is an online book club called the “Ladies in Waiting” that would be a good place to look at for how an online book club is set up (and obviously beware that it is an IF book club where some of the girls are still TTC and some aren’t…some childfree, some moving on to adoption). I have been participating there for the last couple of months. The thing is that I don’t think I really consider myself a “Lady in Waiting” anymore so I think this would be a great to offer a book club when the ladies are ready to move off the TTC train. The site is http://www.ladiesinwaitingbookclub.com/. Look at it knowing that TTC is still a part of the game. This month everyone is reading their own romance for a little change and kind of something different than what many of us normally read. In the past we have read Little Woman, Good Eggs, Silent Sorority, The Help, Water for Elephants…I can’t remember what else! It has been fun but I would love to have a place to move on to.

Colleen,
Thanks for this. I am familiar with them, but it’s a great idea to borrow their model and offer the LWB club for a place to move on to. 🙂

I’ve been part of a couple of online book clubs & they have always been fun. I can’t promise to participate every month, but you can count me in at least occasionally!
