Yesterday I took myself down to my local library to do some nice, quiet research. It wasn’t to be. Instead I got a loudly hissed lesson on sentence structure from a homeschooling mom who’d decided to turn the public library into her own private classroom.
I hightailed it to a nearby café and found a quiet corner near a woman who was busily working on her laptop. All was fine until she made a phone call and began loudly exchanging her clients’ confidential financial information. I now know exactly how much money several members of my community have in their retirement accounts. Fortunately, none of them were people I knew personally.
It’s always amazing to me how people lose sight of the fact that public places are exactly that…public!
It’s Whiny Wednesday (hurray!) who or what’s rubbed you the wrong way this week?

My whine is over the weather. I am so ready for spring and so tired of winter. I live in PA and it had literally snowed at least 2 days every week since mid-December. We’ve had a few warm days with sunshine to melt everything and get us hopeful for spring and then we are back to cold temperatures and snow.

I live in Baltimore, and I’m envious that there have been “good” snows in so many places, and we’ve gotten piddly snow! I want a nice big snow that keeps me out of work for at least one day!! (With power of course!! LOL)

I’m with you. We are going on the fourth weekend in a row of snow here in New Hampshire. I’m really done with winter.

Oh, this is a pet peeve of mine as well!! You wouldn’t believe some of the conversations (cellphone & between friends) that I hear on the commuter train every day. :p They are starting a pilot on one line, designating the top level of each car a “quiet zone.” If it works well, they’ll extend to the other routes. Fingers crossed!!
My whine is about work. Lots of changes afoot. (Again.) My boss has been “seconded” to another area of the department for a year and her replacement has not been hired yet. Whoever he or she is will be my fourth boss in the past three years. :p Meanwhile, my teammate & I are reporting to the next-level boss who is practically impossible to get hold of. How much longer till early retirement?? (which I can probably pull off, since I don’t have kids…!) ; )

How about when the gal next to you in the toilet stall is talking away when you want to flush…ugh!
K says
Just flush, not your issue they decided to talk on the phone in there!

I got around to posting my Whiny Wednesday on my blog today…having to do with taxes and not having children in the US.
Melissa says
I concur!

I’m always a day out, and this week jumped the gun and posted my Whiny Wednesday on my blog on Tuesday (my time!).
I hear you on the whole public/private conversations thing. Yes, the loud cellphone conversations drive me nuts!
Jenn says
I hate when people are out and have loud personal cell phone conversations. I was in a store once and a lady had her friend on speaker phone and I don’t think the friend knew she was on speaker with the stuff she was sharing. I’m with the previous poster about the taxes, I send my husband to the accountant alone because I got tired of hearing the accountant comment on how we should have kids for tax deductions.

My friend had her baby yesterday and all the feelings and brokenness I thought were under control came out uncontrollably. Cried and sobbed like I haven’t in years. Plus I dropped my phone and cracked the screen – hello £130 repair bill…
Maria says
so sorry, been there, in fact recently with a good friend having a baby too. It gets better. Give it time.
