“I take pleasure in my transformations. I look quiet and consistent, but few know how many women there are in me.”
~Anaïs Nin
There’s an idea going around that not having children somehow makes us “less of a woman.” I don’t subscribe to this idea.
As this quote by author Anaïs Nin states, I am many, many women, and “mother” is only one element of me.
I am a writer, friend, wife, cat mama, reader, thinker, curser, fighter, nature-lover, spider catcher, traveler, cook.
All these women are fluid. They ebb and flow in me as needed. And when one of them isn’t able to fulfill her purpose, the others quickly rally to fill the gap, so I am always whole.
I am never less of a woman.

Thank you, Lisa. I love this quote. Your deeper interpretation and application to your life has given me more insight into my own. Which is truly your gift. It reminds me of a message I got once, “Your courage sets others free.”
PS – My hats off to you for being the spider catcher – I cannot relate to that at all! 😉

Love this! I am learning (especially lately as I am writing more and more about it), that I am definitely a mother. A mother to many, in different ways, and maybe in ways that some aren’t open to considering, but that doesn’t make me any less of a mother. And more than that, it is just one of the many amazing pieces of my story! Justine

I like the idea of always being whole. But I’m with Lily. Shudder. Spider catcher! I’m a spider flee-er. We’d be a good pair. And anyone who is a cat mama is ok in my book!
I wrote a post back in 2012 with 100 things emphasising Who I Am rather than who I am not, after seeing the idea on another blog. Here is the link: http://nokiddinginnz.blogspot.co.nz/2012/07/who-i-am.html
