I love the Internet for the breadth and depth of information it provides, and for the opportunity to read so many varying opinions on one subject. But sometimes I just have to walk away.
Case in point, I was doing research for a post and came across the following comment on an article:
“I take care of my parents. My children will take care of me. You want to force my children to take care of you too, meanwhile you arrogantly and selfishly live a much richer life style. Frankly, every GINK I’ve met was an arrogant, self-righteous, elitist. You should apologize for not adding to the future of our race.”
So after I ranted to myself about not expecting anyone else’s kids to take care of me, how our race of almost 7 billion people doesn’t need much adding to, and how narrow-minded this woman was to tar us all with the same “arrogant, self-righteous, elitist” brush, I stomped off and took a long, hot shower.
This woman was clearly on a mission (she posted about half a dozen comments to the same article) and I can’t believe I let her anger get under my skin.
It’s Whiny Wednesday. What’s under your skin today?

I cannot fathom how not having children is selfish. Maybe way back when and they needed a child to inherit the family farm or bring in an income. I wonder if those children know the destiny their angry mother has in mind for them? The media treatment of Meghan Markle is under my skin lately.
Mary says
I feel so sorry for that woman’s kids.

I suspect someone either regrets becoming a parent or was having a particularly trying time with her kids.

Wow! I didn’t read the article and I’m livid!
Selfish?!? REALLY?!?
I’m NOT driving an oversized gas-guzzling-pollution-machine to soccer practice!
I’m NOT filling landfills with dirty diapers and science fair projects!
I’m NOT creating MORE humans (the most invasive species there is btw)
My lifestyle is NOT “Rich” with the bonding that takes place between Mom and Kid.
MY tax dollars are putting HER kids through public school! That’s a drain on my wallet I’d love to end.
I have so many inappropriate things I’d like to write in all capitals right now but I’ll behave.
And I don’t expect other peoples kids to take care of me. I expect I’ll be eaten by my cats.

Well said except the public school thing, but I get your drift. It does amazes me how many people have childten in public school (I’m a teacher) who do not contribute to their dhildtens’ education in any way from taxes all the way to homework assistance. Not to mention my tax dollars going to house, feed, clothe, provide health care etc. for other people’s children and the parents! Money that I won’t have in my old age to care for myself, because who is that chick kidding. Her children won’t be taking care of her let alone me!

So great to read all your comments to this article. And it wasn’t a choice for many of us not to have kids 🙁 what’s a GINK?
robin says
I googled GINK and it said “foolish person” but definitions vary… but I think they might have meant “DINK” – “Double Income No Kids”.

my whine today is when the media or commenters on social media use “family” as an argument to drive home any point they choose, no matter whether it is actually something to do with family or not. Today’s example, our state television channel here in Switzerland published a feature which criticizes the use of artificially produced snow in mountain ski resorts.
First commenter comes along “But it’s important for tourism. There are families who need this, you know”. AAAAaaaargh!
Artificially produced snow is used because there is less and less snow in the mountain ski resorts. Which is due to climate change which is due to too much energy consumption. So using more energy to artificially produce snow just contributes to the problem it is supposed to solve. Also it has been known for years that the artificially produced snow is in itself harmful to the environment. The slopes where it is used in winter are brown and barren in summer. I wonder how the hiking tourists in summer like what the skiing tourists in winter caused! So: short term solution which makes things waaaaaay worse mid- and longterm. But no. “Families depend on that”. End of any argument.
If that is not selfish, I don’t know what is.

Wow! You’re right. Family wins every argument. I never noticed that before. That just blew my mind.
