Whiny Wednesday: Kid-centric Advertising

November 16, 2016

Whiny WednesdayMr. Fab and I got rid of our TV when we first moved in together and—apart from on a handful of occasions—we haven’t missed it at all.

One of the things I definitely don’t miss is the topic of this week’s Whiny Wednesday:

Kid-centric advertising

I’m sure you know what I mean—those ads selling products you might actually use, but which start out with lines like, “We know your family is important to you that’s why you use [fill in the blank product].”

It’s Whiny Wednesday and open season for any topic that’s on your mind.

I use those commercials as a ‘I’ll never have that problem’ moments…kids running through the house covered in mud, pets making a mess, kids making a mess…however my husband makes enough of a mess…it is like having two kids.

My pet peeve it is when people say something along with ‘When are you going to start your family?’ ‘You don’t understand you don’t have a family!”

I DO HAVE A FAMILY!! It just has two people in it. My family started the day I got married thankyouverymuch!!

I’m a big B**** about it now. I will point it out now, first thing, and make them feel as awful as they were trying to make me feel.

Timely topic. My husband and I just decided yesterday that we are taking a tv hiatus. He was the one who actually brought it up because these advertisements are already going strong. He said he was tired of seeing them and would rather cut out tv altogether for the next few months. I’m all right with that. We have to do what ever we can to take care of us.

The glaring one to me is paper towel ads. Every single one seems to be a mom cleaning up spilled beverages. Guess who else uses paper towels? Everyone!!!

We actually dropped cable tv years ago. When I happen to catch ads here and there they are almost always kid centric. I do not miss tv at all.

Good topic – my husband would happily ditch the TV – I do like my telly time though. So we’ve started muting the TV the minute the ads start or we switch over for a few minutes.
