Whiny Wednesday

January 15, 2014

Whiny_WednesdayDuring the recent Polar Vortex that hit much of North America, I went for a walk at the beach. In a t-shirt. And broke a sweat.

There are many things to grumble about when you live in California—the traffic, the air quality, the lack of trees—but the weather isn’t one of them.

It’s Whiny Wednesday. I’m feeling pretty lucky this week. How about you? If there’s something on your chest, now’s the time to get it off.

Whiny Wednesday: We’re Back!

January 8, 2014

Whiny_WednesdayIt’s the first Whiny Wednesday of 2014 and it feels like weeks since we had the chance for a good vent.

If you’ve been saving up your holiday gripes, or if you have a shiny set of new gripes for this year, bring it on, my friends!

Whiny Wednesday

December 18, 2013

Whiny_Wednesday“It’s the most wonderful time of the…”

…week!

That’s right! It’s Whiny Wednesday, your chance to “Bah, humbug” and gripe about the grinches in your life. And because of the impending holidays and the need to be festive, this will be the last whine of 2013, so make it a good one!

Whine on!

Whiny Wednesday: Holiday Blues

December 11, 2013

Whiny_WednesdayMr. Fab and I had a lovely quiet Thanksgiving, just the two of us.

We watched Home for the Holidays as a reminder of what’s good about not having to do the “family thing.”

But now we’ve turned the corner into December and I’m feeling my first pangs of the holiday blues. There are so many things that I wish were part of my festive season, like hand-delivering gifts to my family, shopping for small children, and having the kind of Christmas I had as a child.

But, I’m taking my own advice. I’m focusing on the good stuff, making plans to do festive activities, and creating new traditions suitable for a family of two.

But, boy, it’s not always easy is it?

It’s Whiny Wednesday. What are you struggling with today?

Whiny Wednesday: Kids at the Movies

December 4, 2013

Whiny_WednesdayWhy do some people think it’s perfectly acceptable to bring a toddler or baby into an adult-rated movie only to have them cry all the way through?

Not only is it hugely disrespectful to the other paying customers, there’s a reason some movies are rated unsuitable for children. It’s because they’re unsuitable for children!

It’s Whiny Wednesday; time to get it all off your chest. What’s your gripe?

Whiny Wednesday: Thanksgiving Edition

November 27, 2013

Whiny_WednesdayI’m always hesitant to replace Whiny Wednesday, as it’s such a popular outlet for angst (see last week’s post as an example of the value of a place to vent, and laugh.)

But tradition here is to mix things up a bit on the day before Thanksgiving and make Whiny Wednesday more like Gratitude Wednesday.

So, in honor of Thanksgiving, what are you grateful for this week?

Whiny Wednesday

November 20, 2013

Whiny_WednesdayToday is Whiny Wednesday.

It’s the day you don’t have to be “nice” and keep your grumbles to yourself. If you have a gripe, here’s the place to get it off your chest.

Whine on!

Whiny Wednesday: Sick

November 13, 2013

Whiny_WednesdayI was hit hard with a bad cold last week. As I was lying in bed, sweating, groaning, and coughing, I thought what a relief it was that I didn’t have little kids to take care of while I felt so awful.

Except my husband got the same cold (only way worse, of course) so, in a way, I did.

It’s Whiny Wednesday. What are you feeling sorry for yourself about today?

Whiny Wednesday: Turning Around the Question

November 6, 2013

Whiny_WednesdayWhy is it that people have no problem asking, “So, why don’t you have kids,” or “How come you don’t like children?” or “Don’t you think not having kids is selfish?”

Could you imagine if mothers were asked the inverse? “So, why do you have kids?” “How come you like children?” or “Don’t you think having kids is selfish?” I wonder how many people would have an answer.

It’s Whiny Wednesday. What’s your gripe this week?

Whiny Wednesday: Halloween

October 30, 2013

Whiny_WednesdayWith Halloween just around the corner, no doubt the festivities have begun around you.

If you’re not looking forward to the holiday this year, Whiny Wednesday is here just in time.

Feel free to gripe about your gremlins, and hex anyone who rubs you the wrong way this week.
