Whiny Wednesday

March 6, 2013

Whiny_WednesdayI don’t have a whine today as I just got back from four days in Hawaii, and I can’t bring myself to find anything at all to whine about.

But if you’ve been snow-bound, work-bound, or anything-bound, feel free to get it off your chest here. It is Whiny Wednesday after all.

Whiny Wednesday: The Public

February 27, 2013

Whiny_WednesdayYesterday I took myself down to my local library to do some nice, quiet research. It wasn’t to be. Instead I got a loudly hissed lesson on sentence structure from a homeschooling mom who’d decided to turn the public library into her own private classroom.

I hightailed it to a nearby café and found a quiet corner near a woman who was busily working on her laptop. All was fine until she made a phone call and began loudly exchanging her clients’ confidential financial information. I now know exactly how much money several members of my community have in their retirement accounts. Fortunately, none of them were people I knew personally.

It’s always amazing to me how people lose sight of the fact that public places are exactly that…public!

It’s Whiny Wednesday (hurray!) who or what’s rubbed you the wrong way this week?

Whiny Wednesday

February 20, 2013

Whiny_WednesdayI always get a chuckle when I see how many comments Whiny Wednesday generates. It is undoubtedly the most popular post of the week.

I don’t have much to whine about this week, but I wouldn’t dream of depriving you of your weekly rant, so please, be my guests and whine away.

Whiny Wednesday: Information Overload

February 13, 2013

Whiny_WednesdayI am on information overload. Between my email, my phone, the Internet, the news, the constant chatter, chatter, chatter of 21st century life, I feel as if my head is going to explode.

Oh, how I would love to unplug and sit in silence for a week. But the truth is, I don’t know if I could do it.

It’s Whiny Wednesday. What would love to unplug from for a week?

Whiny Wednesday: Facebook Vacation

February 6, 2013

Whiny_WednesdayI’ve been on a Facebook vacation since the beginning of the year. There were a number of factors that played into my decision, including the amount of mindless time I was frittering away, a sudden surge in baby news, and an alarming surge in banal twaddle from people I wasn’t interested in hearing about.

I also realized that I was walking around talking to myself in third person status updates: Lisa Manterfield is doing dishes and wondering why she moved into a house with no a dishwasher. Lisa Manterfield is in a bad mood today and wishes today was Whiny Wednesday.

I don’t know when I’ll be back from my FB vacation, but I can’t say I’m missing it at all.

As it turns out, it IS Whiny Wednesday. What do you wish you could take a vacation from this week?

Whiny Wednesday: Keeping my Mouth Shut

January 30, 2013

Whiny_WednesdayMy whine today is that I wish I’d chosen to blog under a pseudonym so that I could really whine about the people in my life who are just pissing me off today. As it is, I can’t be certain that they aren’t reading this blog (and just in case, you know who you are!) and I don’t especially want to start a feud, so I’m going to suck it up and keep my mouth shut.

So, dear readers, I’m counting on you to whine on my behalf today.

Whiny Wednesday: Unsubscribe Means Unsubscribe

January 23, 2013

Whiny_WednesdayI’ve been on a mission lately to cleanse my email inbox. It got to the point that I was getting so much junk email in my various accounts that I couldn’t even find the important emails. So, one morning I set off on and Unsubscribe mission and I’ve been going at it ever since.

For the most part, it’s going well, but I am finding some very persistent marketers who don’t seem to be able to comprehend why anyone would want to leave their precious mailing lists, so they send an email just to make sure I really want to leave. And I swear that, since I’ve unsubscribed, some companies have now flagged me as a live human being and have added me to a special list of people to be hounded ten-fold.

But slowly I’m getting a grip on my inbox. I can even see my actual email now!

It’s Whiny Wednesday. What’s irking you today?

Whiny Wednesday: New Year’s Resolutions

January 16, 2013

Whiny_WednesdayAmong my many New Year’s Resolutions this year was a pledge to work smarter, take on fewer projects, make more time for myself, and not get myself in a frazz every day.

Yeah, right. Two weeks in and I’m burning the midnight oil and eating canned soup at my desk. Why even fool myself that this year would be any different?

It’s Whiny Wednesday. How many of your good intentions have already gone out the window?

Whiny Wednesday: Rule Breakers

January 9, 2013

Whiny_WednesdayMr. Fab and I had a truly fabulous Christmas. For the first time ever, we went away, just the two of us. It was bliss, absolute bliss, and I think it’s going to become our new tradition.

On Christmas Day, we went to the zoo and treated ourselves to a behind-the-scenes tour. It really was a treat, as we got to get up close and personal with some fascinating creatures.

We almost abandoned ship, though.

When we arrived, we were mortified to find that our tour included a HUGE family of 13, including at least 8 or 9 of the most unruly, out of control kids, accompanied by a set of adults that seemed to have forgotten they had kids at all. The kids were fighting, breaking things, and completely ignoring the pretty important safety rules (such as don’t move fast in front of a cheetah as it will think you’re a juicy bit of prey and hunt you down at 70 miles per hour.)

To our dismay, when the guides split the tour group into two, our lanyards matched that of the family’s. So, we did a bit of rule breaking of our own and slipped in behind the other group. There, we followed behind a delightful family, with three lovely, well-behaved children, where we got to enjoy watching their excitement at feeding a rhino and petting a kangaroo almost as much as our own.

Pity the poor folks in the other group, though.

It’s the first Whiny Wednesday of the New Year, and I know you’ve got some leftover holiday whines. Now’s your chance to let them all out.

Whiny Wednesday

December 26, 2012

I was thinking that maybe we wouldn’t need Whiny Wednesday, what with it being the happy holiday season and all that. But I’m a realist at heart, so here it is.

Happy Whiny Wednesday to you!
